Welcome to the December edition of the Newton Abbot & Totnes Fencing club (NATFC) newsletter. Happy Christmas to all our members and familiy’s.

Just to keep you up to date with news on how Andy Bornemisza (he contracted Legionnaires disease whilst visiting Italy for a Veterans World Championship Sabre tornement). Andy is now out of Intensive Treatnment Unit & onto a ward and has had the tracheostomy removed, so excellent progress.

A little thought by our BAF coach, Jan Lacey :-

‘Accuracy and confidence will only be obtained through the constant repetition of movements, so that they become as automatic and natural as walking.

When fencing or receiving lessons, one must never allow oneself to be tense, relaxation will bring smoothness, precision & speed. Always remember this !!”

Thanks Jan

Can I start off with a very big thanks to Jim Pilkington, John Evers & Jan Lacey for all their years of voluntary, loyal service for the NAFC, & our outgoing Chair, David Birchmore, who has done a stirling job despite his personal setbacks. May I also thank all the committed members :- Dave Atkins (Webmaster & Temporary Armourer), Bruce Freeman (Welfare Officer), James White, (Junior Representative).

Welcome to the Newton Abbot Fencing club (NAFC). I recently have been elected Chair of the NAFC, so below is little about me.

My name is William (Bill) Berkley and I have been employed by the National Health Service since 1980 (moving from a Qualified Operating Department Practitioner in theatres to a Specialist Paramedic in the Ambulance Service). I joined the Ambulance Service in 1987, Qualified in 1992 and became a Specialist Paramedic in 2003. I was presented with an award by the Association of Ambulance Chief Exetives in 2012 for ‘Outstanding Service’ and in 2016 was voted “Practice Placement Mentor of the Year’ by the Plymouth University.

Various pics of last nights last summer épée series. A good time had by all. Josh maintained his supremacy by coming first, I was second (surprised), and Alex third with Dig a very close fourth.

Some of the youngsters performed admirably tonight as well, in particular James and Louis, well done. You can see more photos on our facebook page here
